LONDON PANDA - THE WINNER
London Panda
Words & Music by Kirsty McGee
On the South Bank of the river
Stands a cantilevered thing
And it’s higher than the tallest bamboo cane
And it spins there in the darkness
Like a bird without a wing
Like a shard of bright tomorrow
Like a flame
And I see the people coming
They have come from miles around
Just to gaze upon the city from the sky
And I dreamed that I might ride upon glass
wings upon the sky
But I’m just a lowly panda
How can I?
The London Eye’s an eye
that never blinks its gaze is true
On a city of insomnia
that stretches bright & blue
And wide & pale horizons yawn
From Waterloo to Orpington
From Clapham out to Wimbledon
I dreamed of passing through
One morning in the stillness
You might see me riding high
Just the small ghost of a panda
Riding on the London Eye
I was loved once by this city
And I’m told they called me Chi Chi
Just the memory of a panda
In the early morning light
The London Eye’s an eye
that always sets it’s sights so high
In a city vast & limitless
that stretches to the sky
And wide & pale horizons yawn
From Waterloo to Orpington
From Clapham out to Wimbledon
I dream of riding high
If you should see a ghostly panda
On the corner of Trafalgar
Don’t forget to give directions
For the Famous London Eye
Just like Paddington before me
I’m a Panda of the City
And they say they call me Chi Chi
And I ride upon the sky
I will ride upon the morning
With the city a reflection
In my eyes the recollection
Of a world that’s lost & gone
For I am the London Panda
And I’m loving every moment
That I ride upon the London Eye
In the city I called home
I am the London Panda
I am the London Panda
I am the London Panda
& I ride upon the sky
