‘MOTHER & SON’ Sculpture Concours

County Hall Arts invites artists to participate in its latest thought-provoking sculpture concours - celebrating another timeless theme, the bond between Mother & Son.

Following on from the charity's successful ‘Peace’ and ‘Fufu’ Sculpture concours, our ‘Mother & Son’ competition is seeking works which explore and express the emotional depth, cultural significance, and personal narratives surrounding this sacred relationship.

The theme provides for a range of interpretations, from tender moments of care and protection, to those capturing strength, heritage, growth, and independence. Artists are encouraged to reflect on both the universal and personal dimensions of this bond.

A mother and her son share an emotional connection which endures and thrives over decades, through thick and think.

Sculptors are invited to submit proposals (comprising of a 3D or 5D design) for a work depicting such a Mother and Son. The winner who is ultimately selected will be commissioned to make their sculpture in return for a prize of £50,000 (plus the cost of materials).

The proposed sculpture should be at least 2-2.5 meters tall (excluding any base or plinth) and composed of natural, non-synthetic materials — specifically wood, stone, ceramics or bronze. This concours is not seeking abstract works.

The competition is open for submissions from 5th September through to 6th February 2026.

Sculpture has had a meaningful presence at County Hall since the building opened over 100 years ago.

Three recently installed works commissioned further to the above concours can be found in the atrium - two sculptures themed around ‘Peace’ created by Cathy Lewis and Houssam el Ghallal as well as Victoria Atkinson’s ’Standing Couple’, winner of the charity's ‘Fufu’ Sculpture concours.
