Do I need special equipment in order to make my film?
No, you don’t need any special equipment. Filming could be done on a phone or ordinary digital camera. It’s the theme, story and characters we’re interested in.
Are you looking for factual or fictional films?
We’re interested in both.
I’m an amateur filmmaker. Does this mean I stand less of a chance of winning?
Absolutely not. We want to see your creativity and invention. We’re looking for meaningful stories, not camera tricks.
Can I submit an animation film?
Can you suggest some of the stages you’re talking about in the journey from “Seed to Table”?
Hopefully, the ideas below will give you some starting points…
- Preparing the soil
- Planting seeds
- Seeds sprouting
- Watering and weeding
- Plants growing
- Flowers pollinating
- Fruit ripening
- Cooking and eating.
May I submit physical samples?
No. Entries are to be submitted online only.
How many digital files must I submit?
We require you to submit one digital file of your short film, a video file up to 200MB via WeTransfer or a video link. (Only the winner may be required to submit an alternative file format or size.)
Can my short film be any length?
No, it must be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. When you submit, you must provide one digital file in one of the following formats: .wmv, .mp4 or .mov (max file size: 200 MB).
How do I know my Submission Form has been sent?
Your application is complete when you see the following message: “Thank you for your entry”.
When will I know if my submission has won?
Successful submissions will receive an email from us to congratulate them on their win. If you don’t hear from us by the notification date, then we’re afraid you have been unsuccessful. We cannot email unsuccessful participants, but we do however look at every entry we receive. We will publish the results on our website.
Do I include my digital file or video with the submission form?
Yes, please include a WeTransfer link or video link in the space provided in the Submission Form.
Will you keep my film on file if I don’t win?
Can I send the same short film to different competitions?
Yes (unless it's been selected as the winner of an earlier competition).
What happens if my entry doesn’t meet the time deadline?
If your entry is received after the deadline, it cannot be considered, so please make sure you send the submission form to us according to the deadlines for the competitions as specified above. And please remember we need to have a valid video link as well as your submission form for your entry to be valid. We regret we are unable to contact those who fail to follow these instructions.
Can my film have already screened at a film festival or online elsewhere?
Can I submit a film I made a few years ago?
Yes, as long as it fits the "Seed to Table" theme.
Who is going to be assessing the films and choosing the winners?
Each competition will be judged by a committee appointed by County Hall Arts - comprising film and culinary professionals.
