STILL HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR

Call for Feature Film Story Ideas

Alan Resnais’ masterwork "Hiroshima, Mon Amour" is considered one of the greatest and most influential films ever made.

With an Academy Award-nominated script by renowned author and playwright Marguerite Duras, the film’s depiction of the post-war affair between a French actress and Japanese architect is at once intimate whilst also prompting rumination and reflection on war - its tragedy, trauma, injustice.

In some sense a meditation on the atomic bomb and its unthinkability, there can be no doubt the film is a call for peace - and a warning to remain vigilant against the next glimpse of human monstrousness.

County Hall Arts is seeking story ideas to form the basis of a new feature film which we hope can match “Hiroshima, Mon Amour” - in its timeless beauty, its impact and its powerful call for peace.

Ideas must be inspired by Resnais’ film and/or its lyrical, vital message - and aspire to similarly touch audiences across generations. We’re seeking emotionally involving, human and humane stories of hope and truth. As in “Hiroshima, Mon Amour”, the film’s score will have a key role to play.

In the first instance, CHA would like to receive story outlines of up to 2 pages (max. 1,250 words) responding to the above brief and aspiration.

This call is open to established writers, newcomers and those in between. We’re looking for writing which moves, entertains and informs with a distinctive voice.

The idea which is ultimately chosen to progress will be awarded a development budget of up to €100,000 to fund writing fees and other development costs. The selected writer will be supported by CHA’s filmmaking team.

Please submit your ideas via the Online Submission Form below after first reading the Terms and Conditions.
