Stranger in the Old Stone Streets
Stranger in the Old Stone Streets" is a recent composition by Patrick Dexter written specially for the forthcoming County Hall Arts' production The Big (Heart) Kitchen set to be shot by filmmaker Bryony Wigley in 2021.
Musically fusing an ageless sense of romanticism that consistently characterises his playing with more contemporary textures, Patrick also draws on his own experiences spent working and traveling in Asia to identify with the mood of the story. The result, focusing on the strange interchanges between alienation and connectedness that occur when one travels from continent to continent far from the familiarity of home, is all the more moving for these personal origins.
The song is performed here by Patrick himself along with his sister Eilís Dexter.
Stranger in the Old Streets
Words and music by Patrick Dexter
Walking Alone
Through the old stone City Streets
Cherry blossom petals beneath my feet
Winter has passed
and summer’s yet to come
How far I had to come to feel free
-
I'm missing you
But I don't want to move
A Stranger in these streets, but not to myself
It's my time to see
What I want to be
A Stranger in these streets, but no longer to myself
-
Out on my own
I'm feeling alone
But I know I'll be just fine
Thinking of home
But don't know where home is anymore
To me, or anyone
-
I'm missing you
But I don't want to move
A Stranger in these streets, but no longer to myself
It's my time to see
What I want to be
A Stranger in these streets, but no longer to myself
