Symphony Fufu at County Hall

County Hall Arts is delighted to present the world premiere of two new works by exciting, emerging composers - Poland’s Michał Malec and Nigeria’s Onche Rajesh Ugbabe, joint winners of the charity’s Symphony Fufu composition concours.

Michał and Onche have arranged their pieces (entitled Symphony Fufu and Inalé Symphonic Suite, respectively) for Piano Quartet especially for this occasion - to be performed by the County Hall Quartet, comprising four acclaimed and award-winning musicians, Stefano Marzanni (Piano), Emma Arizza (Violin), Natalia Solis Paredes (Viola) and Ludovico Colombo (Cello).

Taking place in County Hall's historic Council Chambers on the evening of Monday 31st March, the concert will include a varied and cinematic programme in addition to Michał and Onche’s compositions.

The Symphony Fufu concours was launched in June 2023, inviting classical composers the world over to pitch their vision for an original symphonic work inspired by the theme of ‘fufu’ (or ‘夫婦’), the Japanese term meaning ‘married couple'.

Six composers were then long-listed and commissioned to write their symphonies during 2024.

Michał and Onche’s works were selected as joint winners last November, with Bracha Bdil’s Resonance of Fufu awarded third place.  We are now looking forward to a series of performances of these quartet arrangements in London, Madrid and Kyoto this Spring.
