The Kyoto Quartet at County Hall

County Hall Arts is thrilled to welcome the Kyoto Quartet from Japan for their debut performance in London - taking place in County Hall's historic Council Chambers on the evening of Monday 30th June.

The programme will include Mozart's Flute Quartet No. 3 in C Major and an arrangement of Moon over the Ruined Castle by Rentaro Taki.

Comprising four acclaimed musicians - Mika Enjo (Flute), Shinji Shaku (Violin), Minako Matsuda (Viola) and Kumiko Hosotani (Cello) - the Kyoto Quartet will also present the UK premiere of emerging composer Bracha Bdil’s prize-winning Resonance of Fufu.

Bracha has arranged her work especially for the Kyoto Quartet and this occasion - the piece was commissioned by County Hall Arts as part of the Symphony Fufu concours. Launching in launched in June 2023, the competition invited classical composers the world over were invited to pitch their vision for an original symphonic work inspired by the theme ‘fufu’ (or ‘夫婦’), the Japanese term meaning ‘married couple'.

Other classical music composition concours organised by the charity include Symphony Kyoto, Symphony San Sebastián as well as contests themed around 'Love & Peace' and the River Thames both of which are currently open for submissions.

The Kyoto Quartet’s performance in London follows a series of concerts in Madrid earlier in June.
