Willow is the sixth feature from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Milcho Manchevski. It tells the story of three women struggling to become mothers. They have to contend with issues of control over their bodies, and the struggle against tradition, loyalty, adoption and motherhood. The multi-layered drama is set in a medieval Macedonian village and in a contemporary city.
A hit with festival audiences, the film garnered awards from Fantasporto, Raindance, Cinequest and Valencia following on from its premiere in Rome. Critics have described the film as “subtle, profound” and “dazzling…sensual”.
Willow is North Macedonia's international feature film submission for the 93rd Academy Awards®. Renowned distributor Kino Lorber will release the film in the US later this year.
